The NQ/QAS Elite Development Squad is a Netball Queensland initiative designed to facilitate the development of national and state, talent identified athletes through the provision of Netball Australia's daily training environment in a tailored setting allowing for the holistic development and education of this state's emerging elite athletes.

The squad provides an opportunity for 15 talent identified athletes to continue their on and off court development in a program designed to aid in them making the transition to the biggest stages the sport has to offer.  The Elite Development Squad provides its members with a tailored, load managed program inclusive of:

• Off court education aimed at preparing well rounded athletes
• Personalised, load managed training programs
• Access to tailored strength and conditioning education and programs
• Access to tailored nutritional education and programs
• Access to sports psychology education and programs
• Direct mentoring from the Mission Queensland Firebirds coaching staff and playing group

In 2012/13 the NQ/QAS Elite Development Squad takes the growth of Queensland's emerging elite athletes one step further than in its inaugural cycle via the introduction of an Elite Development Squad team in Netball Queensland's Holden Cruze Cup competition. The opportunity to compete as a team, provides 10 squad members (those given a tier 1A scholarship) the opportunity to develop their match skills within the structure of an underpinning environment. To ensure that all squad members maintain appropriate levels of match interaction, athletes on a tier 1 scholarship receive their match play from within their region's teams during the season whilst continuing to maintain the daily training environment.
